(West Palm Beach, FL – March 24, 2010) The music-filled 18th annual Gospel Gala will be presented on April 23 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. Hosted by the Center’s Community Relations Committee, the concert is a Kravis Center Community Outreach Event. More than 2,000 people attended last year’s soul-stirring, sold-out event.
Over the years, the annual Gospel Gala has featured numerous gospel legends such as Shirley Caesar, Mary Mary, Yolanda Adams, Cece Winans and more, and it has showcased outstanding local community choirs and dance groups.
The headliner of the upcoming Gospel Gala will be The Boys’ Choir of Tallahassee, under the direction Earle Lee, Jr. Also performing will be the Young Singers of the Palm Beaches with Choir Director Shawn Berry, and Dimensional Harmony, the Boynton Beach High School Chorus with Choir Director Sterling Frederick.
THE BOYS’ CHOIR OF TALLAHASSEE
A community based outreach program for males, ages 8 to 18, who are enrolled in schools throughout the Tallahassee area, the mission of the Choir is to foster academic excellence, build character and self esteem, develop interpersonal skills, and help young men realize their fullest potential while acquiring life skills. The Choir is unique because of its “No Excuses” motto, which defines its blueprint for the 21st century, and its extraordinary musical repertoire. Under the direction of Earle Lee, Jr., the Choir is experiencing tremendous success and have earned rousing applause from audiences from Palm Beach County to the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, from The Oprah Winfrey Show to St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
YOUNG SINGERS OF THE PALM BEACHES
Palm Beach County’s largest community based children’s choir is multi–racial, multi-cultural and strives to teach life skills through music. The Young Singers represent 63 Palm Beach County schools and home school students that come together to make beautiful music and good citizens. They have performed locally, nationally, and internationally, and are beginning their seventh year as Palm Beach
County’s premiere community-based children’s choir, based at the Kravis Center, with approximately 230 singers, in grades 3 through 12. In 2006, Young Singers received international recognition when they represented the State of Florida in Jubilate Mozart, an International Youth Choral Festival that was part of the yearlong celebration in honor of the composer’s 250th birthday.
BOYNTON BEACH HIGH SCHOOL CHORUS’
DIMENSIONAL HARMONY
Comprised of 50 Boynton Beach High School Students, Dimensional Harmony has performed for audiences such as Disney Magic Music Days, Universal Studios, the Florida Vocal Association Music Conference, the opening act for Fred Hammond and the Mighty Clouds of Joy, Donald Trump, and for many Civic organizations throughout the year. Dimensional Harmony continue to earn Superior ratings at their District, State, and National Competitions, and performed at the 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 Music Festivals at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Last year they competed in the New York City Heritage Festival, winning first place gold, and performed at the Apollo Theater.
